William M. Treloar (1896)

William Mitchellson Treloar (born September 21, 1850 in Linden , Iowa County , Wisconsin , †  July 3, 1935 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Treloar attended public schools in his home country. In 1864 he moved to Mount Pleasant , Iowa , where he attended high school and Iowa Wesleyan College . In 1872 he came to Missouri, where he worked as a music teacher at Mount Pleasant College in Huntsville until 1875 . He then taught the subject in other Missouri schools. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1894 he was a delegate to their regional party conference in Missouri.

In the congressional election of 1894 , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Champ Clark on March 4, 1895 , whom he had defeated in the election. Since he lost to Clark in 1896, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 . Between 1898 and 1904 Treloar was a post holder in the city of Mexico . Then he got into the music publishing business. He also gave music lessons again and composed some pieces. Between 1905 and 1915 he lived in Kansas City and then in St. Louis. He died there on July 3, 1935.
