Samuel Knox (born March 21, 1815 in Blandford , Hampden County , Massachusetts , †  March 7, 1905 there ) was an American politician . Between 1864 and 1865 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Knox attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1836 Williams College in Williamstown . After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his admission to the bar in 1838, he began to work in this profession in St. Louis (Missouri).

In the congressional elections of 1862 , Samuel Knox ran as a Unionist in the first constituency of Missouri for the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC He was defeated by Republican Francis Preston Blair . But Knox appealed against the outcome of the election. After this was granted, he was able to end the current legislative term as a congressman between June 10, 1864 and March 3, 1865. This time was marked by the events of the civil war . In 1864 Knox was defeated by the Democrat John Hogan .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Knox returned to practice as a lawyer in St. Louis. He later returned to the town of his birth, Blandford, where he died on March 7, 1905, a few days before his 90th birthday. He was buried in Springfield .
