Lowndes Henry Davis (born December 13, 1836 in Jackson , Missouri , †  February 4, 1920 in Cape Girardeau , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1885 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lowndes Davis attended Yale College until 1860 . After a subsequent law degree at Louisville University Law School and his admission to the bar in 1863, he began to work in Jackson in this profession. Between 1868 and 1872 he was a district attorney in the Missouri Tenth District. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1875 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the state constitution. Between 1876 and 1878 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1878 Davis was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Robert Anthony Hatcher on March 4, 1879 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 4, 1885 . Since 1883 he represented the then newly created 14th district of his state. Also from 1883 Davis was chairman of the Treasury Department's Expenditure Control Committee.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Lowndes Davis worked in agriculture, especially in the field of ranching. He died on 4 February 1920 in Cape Girardeau and was on the Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville ( Alabama buried).
