Rezin A. De Bolt

Rezin A. De Bolt (born January 20, 1828 in Basil , Fairfield County , Ohio , †  October 30, 1891 in Trenton , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rezin De Bolt attended public schools in his home country. He then worked as a tanner. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1856, he began to practice this profession in Lancaster . From 1858 he lived in Trenton, Missouri. From 1859 to 1861 De Bolt was school commissioner in Grundy County there . During the civil war he was a captain in the Union army . In April 1862 he was imprisoned for 18 months during the Battle of Shiloh . He suffered severe health impairments. Towards the end of the war, De Bolt returned briefly to the army as a major. Between 1863 and 1875 he was a judge in the Eleventh Judicial District of Missouri.

Politically, De Bolt was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Ira B. Hyde on March 4, 1875 . Since he refused to run again in 1876, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1877 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, De Bolt returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on October 30, 1891 in Trenton, where he was also buried.
