John Henry Raney (born September 28, 1849 in Gravelton , Wayne County , Missouri , †  January 23, 1928 in Patterson , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Raney attended Union School and Woods School in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1881, he began to work in Greenville in this profession. Until 1882 he was a district judge in Wayne County. Between 1882 and 1888 he worked as a public prosecutor in this district. Raney also worked in agriculture, especially in the field of livestock. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In 1888 he ran unsuccessfully for the Missouri House of Representatives . From 1884 to 1927 he was a delegate to all Republican party conventions at the state level; In 1892 he also took part in the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis , at which President Benjamin Harrison was nominated for re-election. From 1893 to 1895 Raney served on the board of directors of the State Normal School at Cape Girardeau .

In the congressional election of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 13th  constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Robert Washington Fyan on March 4, 1895 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Edward Robb in 1896 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 . After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Raney worked as a lawyer in Piedmont . In 1898 he unsuccessfully applied for the post of judge in the twelfth judicial district of his state. Between 1921 and 1922 he was again a prosecutor in Wayne County. John Raney died on January 23, 1928 near the town of Patterson and was buried in Piedmont.
