C. Jasper Bell

Charles Jasper Bell (born January 16, 1885 in Lake City , Hinsdale County , Colorado , †  January 21, 1978 in Kansas City , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1935 and 1949 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jasper Bell attended Jackson County , Missouri's public schools and Lees Summit High School . This was followed by studies at the University of Missouri in Columbia . After studying law at the Kansas City School of Law and being admitted to the bar in 1913, he began working in this profession in Kansas City. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1926 and 1930 he was a member of the Kansas City City Council. He also became a member of a commission for the revision of state legislation. From 1931 to 1934, Bell served as a judge in the Jackson County District Court.

In the 1934 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Jacob L. Milligan on January 3, 1935 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1949 . From 1939 to 1943 he was chairman of the first electoral committee. He then chaired the Committee on Island Affairs until 1947. In 1945 and 1946 he was a member of the Filipino Rehabilitation Commission . By 1941, more New Deal laws were passed in Congress by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . After that, the work of the Congress was determined by the events of the Second World War .

In 1948, Jasper Bell decided not to run again. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to practice as a lawyer. He also worked in the investment industry. He died in Kansas City on January 21, 1978.
