John T. Heard (1893)

John Taddeus Heard (born October 29, 1840 in Georgetown , Pettis County , Missouri , †  January 27, 1927 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1895 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Heard attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Missouri in Columbia until 1860 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1862, he began to practice this profession in Sedalia . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

Heard was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives between 1872 and 1875 ; from 1880 to 1884 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1881 he served on a commission to settle all claims by the State of Missouri against the federal government. In the 1884 congressional election , Heard was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded John Cosgrove on March 4, 1885 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1895 . From 1893 he represented the seventh district of his state there as the successor to Richard Henry Norton . Also from 1893 he was chairman of the District of Columbia Administration Committee. In 1894, Heard was not re-confirmed.

In July 1904 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , where Alton B. Parker was nominated as a presidential candidate. In the following years Heard was also involved in the banking industry; In 1922 he retired. He died on January 27, 1927 while visiting Los Angeles and was buried in Sedalia.
