Robert Patterson Clark Wilson

Robert Patterson Clark Wilson (born August 8, 1834 in Boonville , Cooper County , Missouri , †  December 21, 1916 in Kansas City , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Wilson came to Platte County with his parents when he was still young . He attended William Jewell College in Liberty and then until 1853 the Center College in Danville ( Kentucky ). After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1854, he began to work in his new profession in Seguin ( Texas ) in 1855 . He returned to Missouri in 1858 before moving to Leavenworth in the Kansas Territory in 1860 . Politically, Wilson was a member of the Democratic Party . Between March and June 1861, he served in the Kansas House of Representatives . He then returned to Missouri. In 1871 and 1872 he was a member of parliament and speaker in the House of Representatives there . He was also a member of the Missouri Senate from 1879 to 1880 . In 1888, Wilson was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis , where President Grover Cleveland was nominated for re-election, which was ultimately unsuccessful. At that time he was also the chairman of the Platte City School Board .

After the death of Congressman James Nelson Burnes , Charles F. Booher was first elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . This ended the current legislative period by March 3, 1889. However, since the late Burnes had already been elected for the legislative period beginning March 4, 1889 at the time of his death on January 23, 1889, another by-election was necessary for this term of office. In this election, Robert Wilson was elected to Congress , where he took up his new mandate on December 2, 1889. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1893. From 1891 he was chairman of the pension committee.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Robert Wilson practiced as a lawyer in Platte City, where he also died on December 21, 1916.
