Charles Germman Burton (born April 4, 1846 in Cleveland , Ohio , †  February 25, 1926 in Kansas City , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Burton attended Warren public schools . During the civil war between 1861 and 1864 he served in various units in the Union's army . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1867, he began to work in this profession. In the following years he moved first to Virgil City , Missouri, then to Erie , Kansas, and finally, in 1871, to Nevada , Missouri. He practiced as a lawyer in all places. He later became a district attorney and judge in Missouri's 25th Judicial District. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1884 and 1904 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the congressional elections of 1894 Burton party in the 15th  constituency of Missouri was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Charles Henry Morgan on March 4, 1895 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Maecenas Eason Benton in 1896 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1897 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Burton returned to practice as a lawyer. Between 1907 and 1915 he headed the Kansas City Treasury. In 1908 he was the veteran's organization Grand Army of the Republic . Charles Burton died in Kansas City on February 25, 1926 and was buried in Nevada.
