Andrew King (born March 20, 1812 in Greenbrier County , Virginia , †  November 18, 1895 in Jefferson City , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in what is now West Virginia , Andrew King attended public schools in his homeland. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Saint Charles (Missouri). At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1846, King was a member of the Missouri Senate ; In 1858 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives . Between 1859 and 1864 he served as a judge in the 19th judicial district of his state.

In the 1870 congressional election , King was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded David Patterson Dyer on March 4, 1871 , whom he had defeated in the election. Since he refused to run again in 1872, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 . After retiring from the US House of Representatives, Andrew King returned to practice as a lawyer. He died in Jefferson City on November 18, 1895 and was buried in Saint Charles.
