Cassius M. Shartel

Cassius McLean Shartel (born April 27, 1860 in Crawford County , Pennsylvania , †  September 27, 1943 in Neosho , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1907 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his childhood, Cassius Shartel came with his parents to Knox County , Missouri, where the family lived until 1873. They then moved to Chautauqua County , Kansas . He attended public schools and then studied at the Kansas State Agricultural College in Manhattan . For a few years he worked as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1881, he began to work in Sedan (Kansas) in this profession. In 1887 he moved to Nevada , Missouri and Neosho, where he practiced as a lawyer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1900 and 1936 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions .

In the congressional elections of 1904 Shartel was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded Maecenas Eason Benton on March 4, 1905 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1906, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1907 . Shartel served as President of the Missouri Constitution Revision Assembly in 1922 and 1923. During the Great Depression he was engaged in arranging loans to farmers. He died in Neosho on September 27, 1943.
