Edwin O. Stanard

Edwin Obed Stanard (born January 5, 1832 in Newport , New Hampshire , †  March 12, 1914 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives from 1869 served as its lieutenant governor until 1871 .

Edwin Stanard was four when his parents left New Hampshire with him. The family settled in the Iowa Territory , where he completed his schooling before moving to St. Louis in 1853. After serving a period as a teacher in Illinois , Stanard graduated from St. Louis Business School in 1855. He then worked as a commission agent; later he went into the miller business .

In 1868 the Republican Stanard was elected lieutenant governor of Missouri; he was thus the deputy of Governor Joseph W. McClurg . One year after the end of his term of office, he was elected to the House of Representatives in Washington , which he belonged from March 4, 1873 to March 3, 1875. When trying to be re-elected, he failed.

Stanard then withdrew from politics and worked in flour production until his death in 1914.
