Peter Children (2007)

Peter D. Kinder (born May 12, 1954 in Cape Girardeau , Missouri ) is an American politician . From 2005 to 2017 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Missouri. In January 2017 he resigned from this office.

Career

Peter Kinder attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Missouri in Columbia . After a subsequent law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio ( Texas ) he was admitted to the bar in 1980. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1980 and 1983 he was on the staff of Congressman Bill Emerson . He then worked in Missouri as a lawyer for Drury Industries . He was also involved in the Southeast Missourian newspaper , in which he published weekly articles. Between 1993 and 2005 he was a member of the Missouri Senate . Since 2001 he has been President Pro Tempore and Chairman of the Board.

In 2004, Kinder was elected Lieutenant Governor of Missouri alongside Matt Blunt . He held this office after two re-elections in 2008 and 2012 to 2017. He was Deputy Governor and formal Chairman of the State Senate. As of 2009, he serves under the Democratic Governor Jay Nixon . This was because Missouri is one of the 18 states in which the governor and lieutenant governor are elected separately, rather than together. In 2016, he unsuccessfully applied for his party's nomination for the office of governor of his state. As a result, his time as Lieutenant Governor ended in January 2017.

In the meantime, he made the headlines twice. On the one hand it was about a previous acquaintance with a night club dancer and on the other hand about overly high hotel bills, which he paid back.
