John Baptiste O'Meara

John Baptiste O'Meara (born June 24, 1852 in St. Louis , Missouri , †  July 22, 1926 there ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1897 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Missouri.

Career

John O'Meara was the son of Irish immigrants. He attended Webster School in his hometown and then studied at Saint Louis University . He later worked as a building contractor and engineer. He was also a member of the national guard of his state for 20 years, in which he rose to the rank of captain. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1892, O'Meara was elected lieutenant governor of Missouri alongside William J. Stone . He held this office between January 9, 1893 and January 11, 1897. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. John O'Meara died on July 22, 1926 in his hometown of St. Louis.
