William S. Morris

William S. Morris (born November 8, 1919 in Higginsville , Lafayette County , Missouri , †  March 5, 1975 in Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1969 and 1973 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Missouri.

Career

During the Second World War , William Morris served in an artillery unit in the US Army , in which he rose to major. He was awarded several medals for his military achievements, including the Silver Star . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and his admission to the bar in 1948, he began to work in this profession. Between 1964 and 1972 he was a public administrator in Jackson County . In the meantime he also worked in the private sector and in the banking industry. Morris was also interested in sports, becoming president of the Kansas City Blues ice hockey team and a member of the Kansas City Sports Commission . He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Freemasons . Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1968, Morris was elected Lieutenant Governor of Missouri alongside Warren E. Hearnes . He held this office between January 13, 1969 and January 8, 1973. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He died on March 5, 1975 and was buried in his native Higginsville.
