politics

In 2005, Mike Kehoe was appointed to the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission by Matt Blunt , then governor of Missouri. In 2010, Kehoe, who had never held political office before, ran for a seat in the Missouri Senate. In the internal party primary , Kehoe prevailed against three other candidates and was thus also elected to the Senate, as he ran in the later election without opposing candidates. In 2014 he was confirmed for another four years.

On June 1, 2018, the then governor Eric Greitens resigned from his office after a scandal, with which the then lieutenant governor Mike Parson took over the office. The lieutenant governor's office was vacant until Mike Kehoe was named lieutenant governor by Parson on June 18, 2018. Parson then stated that he believed the Missouri Constitution allowed him to promote Kehoe to lieutenant governor. Democratic Party officials then filed a lawsuit with the Cole County Circuit Court, which was dismissed. This has been appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court. On April 16, 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that Mike Kehoe's appointment as lieutenant governor was lawful.

On September 26, 2019, Kehoe announced that he would run for the 2020 lieutenant governor election.
