James Young (politician, 1800)

James R. Young (born May 11, 1800 in Hawkins County , Tennessee , †  February 9, 1878 in Higginsville , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1844 and 1848 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Missouri.

Career

James Young was the son of William Young, a MP in the Tennessee House of Representatives . Nothing has been handed down about his youth and school education or his career beyond politics. He later succeeded his father and was also a member of the Tennessee State Parliament. In the 1820s he joined the movement around the future President Andrew Jackson and became a member of the Democratic Party founded by this in 1828 . With a letter of introduction from President Jackson, he came to Missouri in 1832, where he continued his political career. From 1836 to 1840 he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives ; from 1840 to 1844 it belonged to theState Senate .

In 1844, Young was elected lieutenant governor of Missouri alongside Thomas Reynolds . He held this office between 1844 and 1848. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He was also known for his donations of land to the Prairie Presbyterian Church , a school and a cemetery. He had three children with his wife, Elizabeth. James Young died on February 9, 1878 in Higginsville, Lafayette County .
