William Rock Painter

William Rock Painter (born August 27, 1863 in Carroll County , Missouri , †  July 1, 1947 in Carrollton , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1917 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Missouri.

Career

William Painter graduated from the Missouri School of Mines , now the Missouri University of Science and Technology . He then worked as a civil engineer until 1894. He then worked in the newspaper business and published the Carroll County newspaper Daily and Weekly Democrat . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1903 he was their district chairman in Carroll County.

In 1912, Painter was elected Lieutenant Governor of Missouri alongside Elliot Woolfolk Major . He held this office between January 13, 1913 and January 8, 1917. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1917 he became chairman of his state's prison committee. For some time as a prison guard he made himself an impression of the conditions there. Painter served in the Missouri Senate between 1923 and 1930. After that, he no longer appeared politically. He died in Carrollton on July 1, 1947.
