Theron Moses Rice (born September 21, 1829 in Mecca , Trumbull County , Ohio , †  November 7, 1895 in Boonville , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Theron Rice attended the Academy in Chester . He then taught in the district schools during the winter months. After studying law and his admission to the bar in 1854, he began working in Mahoning County in this profession. In the spring of 1858 he moved to California , Missouri. During the Civil War he served with a Missouri infantry unit in the Union Army . He rose to the rank of colonel. In 1866 he moved to Tipton , where he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1868 and 1874, Rice served as a district judge.

Politically, he was a member of the short-lived Greenback Party . In the congressional election of 1880 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded John Finis Philips on March 4, 1881 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1882, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1883 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Theron Rice worked as a lawyer in Boonville; He also died in this city on November 7, 1895. He was buried in Tipton.
