Richard Henry Norton (born November 6, 1849 in Troy , Lincoln County , Missouri , †  March 15, 1918 in St. Louis , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Richard Norton attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at Saint Louis University . After a subsequent law degree at Washington University and his admission to the bar in 1870, he began to work in Troy in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1888 Norton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded John E. Hutton on March 4, 1889 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1893 . In 1892 he was not re-elected. After leaving the US House of Representatives, Norton practiced law again. He also worked in agriculture. He died on March 15, 1918 in St. Louis and was buried in Troy.
