Charles F. Booher

Charles Ferris Booher (born January 31, 1848 in East Groveland , Livingston County , New York , †  January 21, 1921 in Savannah , Missouri ) was an American politician . In 1889 and between 1907 and 1921 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Booher attended the public schools in his home country and the Geneseo Academy . After that he taught himself as a teacher for some time. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1871, he began to work in Rochester (Missouri) in this profession. In 1875 he moved to Savannah, where he served as a district attorney in Andrew County there until 1877 . He held this office again between 1883 and 1885. In between he practiced as a lawyer. During this time Booher also entered the lending business and the real estate industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was Mayor of Savannah between 1886 and 1890.

After the death of Congressman James Nelson Burnes , Booher was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election for the fourth seat of Missouri . There, between February 19 and March 3, 1889, he ended the legislative term of his predecessor. In the regular congressional elections of 1888 , he no longer ran. As a result, Booher devoted himself to his private business.

In the congressional elections of 1906 he was then re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the fourth district of Missouri, where he succeeded Frank B. Fulkerson on March 4, 1907 . After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on January 21, 1921. During this time, the First World War and the ratification of the 16th , 17th , 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution took place .

In 1920 Charles Booher declined to run again. He died before the end of his last legislative term.
