Harold Volkmer

Harold Lee Volkmer (* 4 April 1931 in Jefferson City , Missouri ; †  16th April 2011 in Hannibal , Missouri) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and longstanding member of the US House of Representatives for the State of Missouri.

Life

After attending the Catholic School in Jefferson City, he first went to Jefferson City Junior College before studying at Saint Louis University . He then completed a postgraduate degree in law at the Law School of the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1955 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). Shortly after his subsequent admission to the lawyer , he was assistant to the Attorney General of Missouri, before he 1955-1957 his military service in the US Army ableistete. After completing his military service, Volkmer settled as a lawyer in Hannibal and was prosecuting attorney ( prosecuting attorney ) in Marion County between 1960 and 1966 .

He then began his political career for the Democratic Party and was a member of the House of Representatives from Missouri from 1967 to 1976 . He was then elected to the US House of Representatives for the first time in 1976 and represented the interests of the ninth congressional electoral district of Missouri between January 3, 1977 and January 3, 1997 . During his longstanding membership in Congress, he was a member of the Justice and Agriculture Committees and at times chairman of the US House Agriculture Subcommittee on Small Farms and Forests .

In the 1996 congressional elections , Volkmer, who was not only a member of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association , but was also involved in the Hannibal Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus , was defeated by his Republican challenger Kenny Hulshof and had to leave the US - Resign from the House of Representatives.
