Robert Anton Young III (born November 22, 1923 in St. Louis , Missouri , †  October 17, 2007 in St. Ann , Missouri) was an American politician . Between 1977 and 1987 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Young attended schools in Vinita Park . In 1941 he graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis. During the Second World War he served in the US Army between 1943 and 1945 . After the war he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Young was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 1957 to 1961 , before serving on the State Senate from 1963 to 1976 . Between 1952 and 1976 he was a delegate at all regional Democratic Party Congresses; from 1960 to 1992 he took part in nine Democratic National Conventions .

In the congressional elections of 1976, Young was the second electoral district of Missouri in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeds on Jan. 3, 1977 James W. Symington took. After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1987 . There he was a member of various committees, including the Science and Technology Committee . In 1986 he was defeated by Republican Jack Buechner .

After leaving Congress, Robert Young remained interested in politics at the regional level, but he no longer held higher offices. He died on October 17, 2007 in St. Ann. Since 1988 a federal building in St. Louis has been named "Robert A. Young Federal Building" in recognition of its services.
