John Guier Scott

John Guier Scott (born December 26, 1819 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  May 16, 1892 in Oliver Springs , Tennessee ) was an American politician . Between 1863 and 1865 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After preschool, John Scott attended Bethlehem Academy in Pennsylvania, where he studied civil engineering. In 1842 he moved to Missouri, where he became manager of the Iron Mountain Co. In 1858 he founded his own company in Irondale called Irondale Iron Co .; at the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In 1862 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . After the death of MP John William Noell , Scott was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the third seat of Missouri , where he took up his new mandate on December 7, 1863. By March 3, 1865, he ended the legislative period that had begun. His time in Congress was marked by the events of the Civil War .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Scott worked as a pharmacist in St. Louis for some time . He also worked in mining. In 1868 he built heating stoves in Scotia . In 1870 he returned to St. Louis. He moved to eastern Tennessee around 1880. He died on May 16, 1892 in Oliver Spings and was buried in St. Louis.
