William Henry Stone

William Henry Stone (born November 7, 1828 in Shawangunk , Ulster County , New York , †  July 9, 1901 in Asbury Park , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Stone attended public schools in his homeland. In 1848 he moved to St. Louis , Missouri, where he worked in iron processing. In 1867 he became president of the St. Louis Hot Pressed Nut & Bolt Company . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives and a member of the St. Louis City Water Committee from 1871 to 1873.

In the congressional election of 1872 , Stone was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Missouri , where he succeeded James Robinson McCormick on March 4, 1873 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1877 . From 1875 he was chairman of the Committee for the Control of Expenditures of the Ministry of Post and the Craftsmen's Committee.

In 1876, William Stone renounced another congressional candidacy. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to his previous business interests. He died on July 9, 1901 in Asbury Park and was buried in St. Louis.
