Atchison is a city in the United States of America in the state of Kansas . It is the county seat of Atchinson County . In 2000, 10,232 people lived in Atchison; until the official estimate in 2009, the population increased slightly to 10,432.

The city is located on the west bank of the Missouri near the border between Kansas and Missouri .
The city has an area of 18.7 km² (17.7 km² of which is land area).
history
The place was founded in 1854 and is known as the birthplace of the pilot Amelia Earhart , in whose honor a festival takes place annually in July, which attracts between 30,000 and 50,000 visitors.
Also came from Jesse Stone , an American musician and arranger of jazz and rhythm and blues from Atchison. Jesse Stone and his Blues Serenaders were a Kansas City Jazz Territory band that played in and around Kansas City from Atchison from 1926 to 1927.
