Cornelia Kneppe

Cornelia Kneppe (* 1953 ) is a German medieval historian .

Life

From 1972 to 1978, Kneppe studied history and German at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, completing the 1st state examination. From 1978 to 1981 she was employed as a research assistant in the project “The Synopsis of the Cluniazenic Necrologies” in Collaborative Research Center 7 of the Westphalian Wilhelms University and completed her studies on July 19, 1982 in the subjects of medieval history, art history and archeology with a dissertation on beginnings and development of the Cluniac priory of St. Martin des Champs in Paris (1079–1150). Since April 1982 she has been employed in the Middle Ages section of the Westphalian Museum of Archeology of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe , with the task of recording medieval and modern monuments and processing land-use planning.

Her research interests include the history of Westphalian cities, the demarcation of city and country in the late Middle Ages , medieval territorial formation and legal history , but in particular the history and development of medieval land forces .

She has been a member of the Antiquities Commission for Westphalia since 1996 and a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia since 2000 . In 2004 the monograph Die Stadtlandwehren of the eastern Münsterland was published as Volume XIV of the publications of the Antiquities Commission for Westphalia. Since 2006 she has been co-editor of the Westphalian City Atlas on behalf of the Historical Commission and has been the editor of the cities of Gelsenkirchen , Gelsenkirchen-Buer , Gelsenkirchen-Horst , Hallenberg and Medebach .
