Cornelis Nicolaas Hin (born October 6, 1869 in Den Helder , † October 21, 1944 in Bloemendaal ) was a Dutch sailor .

successes

Cornelis Hin took part in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . With his sons Johan and Frans he started with the 12-foot dinghy Beatrijs III and on July 7th lost the first race to the only opposing boat, the Boreas , which was piloted by Arnoud van der Biesen and Petrus Beukers . During the second race on July 8th, one of the course buoys drifted off, which is why the race was canceled. As the Belgian organizers could not repeat the race this week, they asked the Dutch Olympic Committee to organize two replacement races in the Netherlands on September 3rd, as both boats were made up of Dutch crews. These then took place on the Buiten-IJ : the Hin family initially managed to equalize 1: 1 in the repetition of the second race and also defeated the Boreas in the third race, making them Olympic champions . Cornelis Hin had been the helmsman in the first race, with Johan as a crew member. Frans was also part of the crew at the two races that took place in the Netherlands.

Three years later, Hin became the first Dutch champion in the 12-foot dinghy. In 1924 he was originally supposed to start in the monotype at the Olympic Games in Paris , but was replaced by his son Johan due to a rheumatic disease. In addition to his sailing career, Hin was also active as a functionary at the football club HFC Haarlem . From 1905 he ran a stocking factory after having previously worked as a teacher.
