Cornelius Comegys Jadwin

Cornelius Comegys Jadwin (born March 27, 1835 in Carbondale , Lackawanna County , Pennsylvania , †  August 17, 1913 in Honesdale , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Cornelius Jadwin attended the public schools in his home country and then taught himself as a teacher for four years. He then studied civil engineering and pharmacy. Between 1857 and 1861 he worked as a civil engineer and in mining. He then went into the pharmacy business in Honesdale. He served on the education committee in his home district for nine years, including three years as its president. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In June 1880 he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago , at which James A. Garfield was nominated as a candidate for president.

In the congressional election of 1880 Jadwin was elected to the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Edward Overton on March 4, 1881 . In 1882 he was not re-elected as an independent candidate. Therefore, until March 3, 1883, he was only able to serve one term in Congress . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Cornelius Jadwin worked again as a pharmacist. He died on August 17, 1913 in Honesdale, where he was also buried.
