The Cornelsen Kulturstiftung is a non-profit foundation under the umbrella of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft based in Essen . It is dedicated to monument protection in Berlin and Brandenburg .
history
The foundation was established in 1996 by Ruth Cornelsen, the second wife of the publisher's founder, Franz Cornelsen . She paid tribute to the life's work and the commitment of her deceased husband. Franz Cornelsen, entrepreneur, publisher and benefactor, had set up three charitable foundations that primarily serve education, but also environmental issues and the promotion of art.
The income from the foundation's capital is allocated to projects of cultural and historical importance in coordination with a scientific advisory board.
The foundation has had 30 culturally and historically significant monuments repaired and restored. The foundation belongs to the Donors' Association for German Science . The current funding volume is around 300,000 euros per year.
Foundation purpose
The purpose of the foundation is the preservation and restoration of cultural and historical buildings and works of art. Paintings or furnishings for museums and art-historical buildings are also procured. When it comes to the preservation of monuments, the federal and state governments are not relieved of their responsibility: the foundation usually combines a grant of funds with the condition that public funds must also be brought in.
organization
The foundation advisory board determines which projects will be supported with the available funds. The advisory board consists of Andrea Cornelsen, Hartmut Dorgerloh , Stefan Körner and André Schmitz . Matthias Sommer is responsible for the German Foundation Center in Berlin.
