Cornwell Corner is an angular and 800 m high cliff on the Hillary Coast in southern Victoria Land . It is at the western end of Horney Bluff , where the Merrick Glacier abruptly bends east before flowing into the Byrd Glacier .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cliff in 2000 after Delbert Strother Cornwell (1900-1974), captain of the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea in Operation Highjump (1946-1947) led by Richard Evelyn Byrd .
