Coronel Martínez is a city with 6,622 inhabitants and forms the district of the same name in the Guairá department in Paraguay .

location

Coronel Martínez is located in the southern center of the country on a connecting road between the national roads Ruta 1 and Ruta 8 . To Villarrica in the east it is about 15 km and to Coronel Oviedo in the northeast about 40lm as the crow flies. In the northwest, General Bernardino is about 25 km from Coronel Martínez. About three kilometers outside of the village is the 43 m high El Salto Cristal waterfall .

economy

The place received an economic and fame boost from a recently built sugar cane factory , which is considered the largest in the country.

  • The name of the city is reminiscent of Colonel José Martinez, a former commander of the city of Humaitá during the war of 1864–1870 .
  • The first division footballer Gabriel Lezcano Rivarola, who plays for Celta de Vigo , was born in 1946 in CM.
