Corpus Inscriptionum Indicarum

Corpus Inscriptionum Indicarum ( CII ) is a series of inscriptions discovered and deciphered by archaeologists at the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The series was founded in 1877 by Alexander Cunningham .

Each of these volumes contains detailed descriptions and critical notes on inscriptions from a particular dynasty or period in Indian history . They were published by respected scientists from within the department and from outside. The first volume in the series with Ashokan inscriptions was published by Alexander Cunningham in 1877 and was published in a revised edition by Eugen Hultzsch in 1925. Seven volumes in this series have been published so far. They contain all inscription texts edited in a critical edition. Inscriptions by Asoka (see under Edicts of Ashoka ), Bharhut inscriptions, inscriptions of the early Gupta kings, inscriptions of the Vakatakas , inscriptions of the Kalachuris from Chedi, inscriptions of the Silaharas and inscriptions of the Chandellas and Paramaras were brought out. The volumes were prepared by eminent scholars such as Eugen Hultzsch, John Faithfull Fleet , Sten Konow , Heinrich Lüders , DR Bhandarkar , VV Mirashi , B. Ch. Chhabra , GS Gai and HV Trivedi .
