Corsia cyclopensis is a loose leaf green plant type from the family of Corsiaceae .

features

Like all species of the genus also has Corsia cyclopensis the photosynthesis abandoned and therefore forms no chlorophyll more. Instead, it lives myco-heterotrophically on a fungus .

Corsia cyclopensis is a perennial plant that only grows above ground during flowering. From the rhizome sprouts up to 25 centimeters long, cylindrical and bright purple-red stalk. The foliage is reduced to two to four sheath-shaped and light purple, dark nerved scaly leaves , these are 10 to 15 millimeters long, five to seven-veined and tapering to a point. The bracts are the same as the leaves.

The upright individual flowers are terminal and stand on flower stalks that are 2 to 3.5 inches long and smooth. Of the six petals (three tepals each in two petal circles ) five are linear, pale yellow, 10 to 12 millimeters long, 0.5 millimeters wide, one-nerved and hairless. The top sixth, the so-called labellum , is light purple with dark veins and a pale yellow border, heart-shaped to round-kidney-shaped and greatly enlarged (10 to 12 millimeters long and 10 to 15 millimeters wide). His approach is very heart-shaped, the lobes are rounded and up to the papillae on the handle Elan sentence it is smooth. The callus is yellow, towards the gynostemium purple and provided with a black spot, triangular to crescent-shaped and irregularly surrounded by small, finely papillary calluses. At the base, the labellum is directly fused with the 1 to 1.5 millimeter long and smooth gynostemium. The free stamens are light pink and like the anthers 1 millimeter long. The dark purple stylus is 2 millimeters long. The smooth ovary is 15 to 20 millimeters long, the purple capsule fruit up to 20 millimeters.

Distribution area

Corsia cyclopensis has been found twice at an altitude of 1200  m in the Indonesian western New Guinea on Mount Cycloop .

Systematics

Corsia cyclopensis was first described by Pieter van Royen in 1972 and is related to Corsia crenata and Corsia ornata . Like this, it is placed in the sessilis section , since the labellum is directly fused with the gynostemium. Pieter van Royen considered that it should be placed at Corsia ornata .
