Dana Wynter
Dana Wynter , born: Dagmar Winter (born June 8, 1931 in Berlin , Germany - † May 5, 2011 in Ojai , California , United States ), was a British actress .
Life
The Berlin surgeon's daughter grew up in London and the then British colony of Rhodesia .
Shortly after the end of the war in 1945, she began to study medicine at Rhodes University in Grahamstown , but devoted herself more and more to her hobby, amateur theater. The Fadssa troupe, in which she initially played as Dagmar Wynter, won first prize at a South African amateur theater festival with the performance of the play Through the Glass Darkly .
In 1950 she decided to return to London to work professionally as an actress. As Dana Wynter, the British elected student at the Old Vic Theater and made her professional debut in a performance of Perikles. At the same time she received film roles for the first time. But only her move to Hollywood in 1954 gave her career a little boost. In 1956 she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress of the year.
Dana Wynter has played leading roles in films such as The Demonic , Between Heaven and Hell and General Pfeifendeckel and has been a guest in a multitude of US television series such as the Dick Powell Show and Alfred Hitchcock Presents . She got a continuous role in 1966 in the series The man who never was . In 1975 Wynter largely ended her work for the cinema in the role of Yves Montand's wife in The Beautiful Wilds . In 1982 she was seen in the television film The Romance of Charles & Diana , where she played Queen Elisabeth II.
From 1956 to 1981 she was married to divorce lawyer Greg Bautzer. The two have a son together. Most recently Wynter lived alternately in California and in County Wicklow, Ireland.
