Corsia triceratops is a loose leaf green plant type from the family of Corsiaceae .

features

Like all species of the genus also has Corsia triceratops the photosynthesis abandoned and therefore forms no chlorophyll more. Instead, it lives myco-heterotrophically on a fungus .

Corsia triceratops is a perennial plant that only grows above ground during flowering. From the short, creeping rhizome sprouts up to 10 centimeters long, cylindrical and finely grooved, unbranched and upright growing stalk. The up to 7 millimeters long foliage is reduced to sheath-shaped scaly leaves and has five nerves.

The upright individual flowers are terminal and stand on peduncles that are 15 millimeters long. Of the six petals (three tepals each in two petal circles ) five are ovate, 4 to 5 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide, one-nerved and hairless. The top sixth, the so-called labellum , is elongated-round to round, greatly enlarged (17 millimeters long, 14 millimeters wide), the web of callus tissue is narrow, 4 millimeters long and wide, wedge-shaped and split at the tip, runs at its base a narrow comb with three tooth-like extensions, the largest of which is 0.5 millimeters long and blunt.

The gynostemium is 0.5 millimeters long, the stamens are not grown, the anthers are 1 millimeter long.

Distribution area

Corsia triceratops has only been picked up once, on the Indonesian island of Yapen , off western New Guinea . There is no further information on the site conditions.

Systematics

Corsia triceratops is closely related to Corsia acuminata and Corsia cornuta , they share the horned crest of the callus bridge as a characteristic. Like this one, it is placed in the Unguiculatis section .
