Cortado

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cortado is a free Java applet for displaying media embedded in websites ( Ogg Vorbis , Ogg Theora , µ-law , MJPEG and Smoke, a separate MJPEG variant).

This means that a website can be set up in such a way that a browser with Java support automatically loads the applet from the page in the background and can play the embedded multimedia content without any additional software installation. It is used in Wikimedia projects and at blip.tv , among others .

It is under the GPL license (version 2 or later) and was originally developed by the Spanish company Flumotion as part of their multimedia streaming package. It is now being further developed under the umbrella of the Xiph.Org Foundation .
