The Öjendorfer See is located in the east of Hamburg in Öjendorfer Park. It is designated as a recreational body of water with two bathing areas (north and south).

Emergence

Öjendorfer See

Originally the area of the lake was used for agriculture. From 1925 to 1929, however, it was excavated to a depth of 10 to 12 meters in order to raise the Horner Marsch with the sand and gravel extracted. After the end of the Second World War , the pit was used to deposit the rubble from the destroyed parts of the city in the east of Hamburg. The pit was partially filled again with it. The rubble was transported by a rubble train that was brought in from the Hamm and Horn districts . In 1954, a ditch to the Schleemer Bach was created in the north of the lake . The pit was filled with water and has served as a retention basin for the stream ever since . A sluice in the south drains the lake to Schleemer Bach. In 1959, the redesign of the site into Öjendorfer Park began .

Creature

In the north of the lake there is a bird sanctuary, which among other things serves as a wintering place for bittern . The fish species eel , bitterling , perch , pike , crucian carp , carp , burbot , asp , rudd , tench and bleak can be found in the lake . Fishing in the Öjendorfer See is prohibited all year round.

Bathing lake

The lake has two small sandy beaches at the bathing spots. There the bank is flat and therefore suitable for swimming. In the southern part there is a demarcated area for non-swimmers. Bathing is not permitted in the northern bird protection zone. There are large sunbathing areas. A barbecue area and two children's playgrounds are available. There are two kiosks, each with toilet facilities nearby. Parking is free in several places. In 2011, the bathing season ended at the beginning of August due to the increased concentration of blue-green algae . In the summer of 2018 , the limit of 50 micrograms of cyanobacteria per liter was exceeded many times over in mid-July.
