The rottenwood beetles (Corylophidae) are a family of beetles .

features

The beetles are only 0.8 to 2 millimeters long. They are either oval, round or slightly box-shaped and have a light to dark brown body. The head is hidden under the pronotum and cannot be seen from above. The antennae are slightly thickened in the shape of a club at the end and can be folded into the recesses provided on the pronotum. Due to its size, species identification is difficult and only possible with a microscope.

Way of life

The beetles live on rotting wood and plants, under the bark and excrement of herbivores.
