Coryphantha durangensis is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet durangensis means 'from the locality Durango (Mexico)'.

description

Coryphantha durangensis usually forms small groups. The spherical to short cylindrical, light blue-gray or gray-green shoots reach heights of 5 to 15 centimeters with diameters of 3.5 to 5 centimeters. The warts are somewhat compressed, the axillae are thickly woolly. The single blackish central spine , rarely up to three, is protruding, straight or slightly curved and 1.1 to 1.8 centimeters long. The six to 20 white radial spines are up to 1 centimeter long.

The white to very light yellowish flowers are up to 2 centimeters long and 2.5 to 3 centimeters in diameter. Your bracts sometimes have reddish purple tips. The fruits are greenish, up to 1 centimeter long and have a diameter of 5 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha durangensis is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Durango .

It was first described as Mammillaria durangensis in 1898 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Coryphantha in 1923 .

The following subspecies are distinguished:

  • Coryphantha durangensis subsp. durangensis
  • Coryphantha durangensis subsp. cuencamensis

Coryphantha durangensis subsp. cuencamensis in 2002 in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Endangered (EN) " d. H. endangered, classified. The 2009 update did not re-evaluate the subspecies.
