Coryphantha erecta is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet erecta comes from Latin , means 'upright' and refers to the upright shoots.

Coryphantha erecta branches out from the base and forms lumps. The cylindrical, bright green shoots reach heights of up to 50 centimeters with diameters of 5 to 8 centimeters. The conical warts , up to 8 millimeters long, stand loosely together. The axillae have white wool and yellow nectar glands. The two, rarely four, yellowish brown central spines are directed downwards and up to 2 centimeters long. The eight to 13 golden-brown, up to 1.2 centimeters long radial spines are spread out, straight and subpulate.

The short funnel-shaped, almost wheel-shaped yellow flowers are 5 to 6 centimeters long and reach a diameter of up to 7.5 centimeters. The cylindrical green fruits reach a length of up to 1.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha erecta is common on slopes with limestone gravel in the Mexican states of Hidalgo , Guanajuato and Querétaro .

The first description as Mammillaria erecta by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer was published in 1837. Charles Lemaire placed the species in the genus Coryphantha in 1868 .

Nomenclatory synonyms are Cactus erectus (Lem. Ex Pfeiff.) Kuntze (1891) and Glandulifera erecta (Lem. Ex Pfeiff.) Frič (1924). Mammillaria evanescens hoard are included in the species as a synonym . Belg. (1837, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 11.4), Mammillaria ceratocentra A.Berg (1840) and Cactus ceratocentrus (A.Berg) Kuntze (1891).

Coryphantha erecta is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
