Coryphantha neglecta is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet neglecta comes from Latin , means 'disregarded' and refers to the previously disregarded taxonomic status of the species.

description

Coryphantha neglecta grows individually or in groups. The spherical, cloudy green shoots reach heights of up to 6 centimeters with a diameter of 7 centimeters. The depressed top of the shoot is woolly. The firm, slightly keeled warts are conical and rhombic at their base. They have a weak, shallow furrow. The single gray, protruding central spine , thickened at the base , which may occasionally be absent, is thin, subpulate, stiff, straight and 2.5 to 3.5 centimeters long. The 15 to 17 spread needle-like, stiff, straight radial spines are black or yellowish and gray with age. They have lengths of 1 to 2 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, light yellow flowers reach a diameter of 4 to 5 centimeters. The elongated, juicy, gray-green fruits are up to 2.3 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha neglecta is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo León from Monclova to Monterrey on calcareous alluvial soil and hilltops.

The first description by Lewis Bremer was published in 1979.

Coryphantha neglecta is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Least Concern (LC) ", d. H. not endangered, classified.
