Coryphantha salinensis is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet salinensis refers to the occurrence of the species near Salinas Victoria in the Mexican state of Nuevo León .

Coryphantha salinensis usually grows individually with spherical, egg-shaped or short cylindrical, dark green to light blue-green shoots that reach heights of 5 to 10 centimeters with a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters. The up to 20 millimeters long, very firm, more or less upright warts are often arranged in a brick shape. They are conical and rhomboid at their base. Most of the four central spines , which are often missing in young plants, are straight to strongly curved, dirty white to brown to black and 1.2 to 1.5 centimeters long. The eleven to 15, initially all the same and later all unequal, 1.1 to 1.8 centimeters long radial spines are whitish and have a darker tip.

The bright yellow flowers are red at their base. They are 4 to 7 inches long and 4 to 7.5 inches in diameter. The green fruits are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha salinensis is common on alluvial plains and limestone rubble in the Mexican states of Coahuila , Nuevo León and Tamaulipas .

The first description as Echinocactus salinensis by Heinrich Poselger was published in 1853. Reto F. Dicht and Adrian D. Lüthy placed the species in 1998 in the genus Coryphantha .

Synonyms are Mammillaria borwigii J.A.Purpus (1927) and Coryphantha borwigii (JAPurpus) A. Berger (1929).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
