The Coschützer tunnel along the highway 17 is part of a combination of two tunnels and a connecting bridge to cross the Weißeritztal, here the Plauen reason . The Coschützer Tunnel consists of two tubes and crosses under the Dresden district of Coschütz over a length of 2,332 meters. This is followed in the direction of BAB 4 by the two-part, four-lane Weißeritztal Bridge, around 218 meters long, and the Dölzschen tunnel, 1070 meters long.
The combination is the main part of the 8.85-kilometer section of the motorway between the Dresden-Gorbitz (2) and Dresden-Südvorstadt (3) junctions, which opened on December 22, 2004 . It also contains the 345 meter long Altfranken tunnel , the 67 meter long Kaitzbach bridge and the 142 meter long Zschauketal bridge .
The Coschützer Tunnel is equipped with the latest security technology. In the first test by the ADAC, the tunnel was rated “very good” in 2006 and thus meets the intended safety standards.
