The Weißeritztalbrücke (also known as the Weißeritz valley bridge ) is an approximately 218 meter long motorway bridge in Dresden . It is part of the “tunnel-bridge-tunnel” combination with the Dölzschen tunnel and the Coschütz tunnel along the highway 17 (Dresden– Prague ). The entire combination is considered to be the most technically demanding structure on the motorway.

The Weißeritztalbrücke consists of two partial bridges, each for one directional lane on the motorway. It begins at the tunnel portals of the Dölzschen tunnel at the Begerburg . It then spans the “ Plauenscher Grund ” section of the Weißeritztal , which is only around 150 meters wide at this point. The Weißeritz river runs through the valley and flows into the Elbe in Dresden from the Eastern Ore Mountains . Its course is followed by Tharandter Strasse as a connection between the cities of Dresden and Freital and the Dresden – Werdau railway line on its section between the Dresden-Plauen and Freital-Potschappel stations . On the other side of the valley, the bridge ends at the entrances and exits of the Coschützer tunnel.

The eastern partial bridge is 219 meters long, the western partial bridge is 217 meters long. The Weißeritztal Bridge is supported by four reinforced concrete pillars and reaches a height of 28 meters above the valley floor. The superstructures are another seven meters high. The bridge is realized as a girder bridge with a box girder painted in turquoise. The attached deck is up to 15 meters wide and 50 centimeters thick.

history

The first construction phase of the Federal Motorway 17 began in August 1998. By 2001 the first part up to the “Dresden-Gorbitz” junction had been completed. At the same time, construction began on the section between the Gorbitz and Südvorstadt junctions , on which the two tunnels and the Weißeritztal bridge , the Altfranken tunnel and other, smaller bridges are located. Construction of the bridge and tunnel began in the spring of 2000.

The bridge was designed by Schüßler-Plan Ingenieurgesellschaft on behalf of the Saxony motorway office. The architect of the Weißeritztal Bridge was the Darmstadt architect Egon Jux , who had already planned several other bridges, including the Hamburg Köhlbrand Bridge . The work was carried out by Walter Bau  AG, which was also responsible for the construction of the remaining sections of the A17. The construction work turned out to be particularly difficult because of the limited space in the valley, because the road and rail traffic on the important connecting route could not be too much obstructed by the ground.

The bridge was completed in 2002, the construction costs were estimated at around 15 million euros, but ultimately amounted to 23 million euros. Due to the delays in the construction of the two tunnels, the clearance of the motorway section was delayed until December 22, 2004. Among other things, a cable fire in the Coschützer tunnel was responsible for this.
