Begerburg
The Begerburg is a castle-like villa in the Dölzschen district of Dresden that was built in the 19th century . The building, which is striking because of its location on a rocky promontory above the Weißeritztal, is entered as a cultural monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dresden.
history
As early as the 18th century, the Roßthaler manor owner Carl Siegmund von Nimptsch had a pleasure house built on a rocky promontory called "Kanapee" above the Plauen reason , which was named Carlsburg after its builder. The wooden structure was victim of a storm in 1742 and was then replaced by a stone structure. In connection with the battle of Kesselsdorf during the Second Silesian War , this building fell victim to the chaos of war in 1745. After the rebuilt pleasure house was destroyed again in the Seven Years' War in 1759, a viewing area with a roundabout and benches was created in its place .
In 1852 the Dölzschen quarry owner Johann Gottlieb Beger acquired the property and had a villa built there in neo-Gothic style. The architect of the building, which was designed with stylistic elements of a medieval castle, was Theodor Lehnert . Inside the house, which was initially used for gastronomy, there were several restoration rooms, which were connected to the kitchen by a food elevator. There was also a hall, a coffee room and a viewing platform accessible via a spiral staircase. The interiors were also designed in a medieval style, with wood imitations and glazes being used in some cases for cost reasons.
The building served as a restaurant until 1871, but had to be closed by order of the authorities after a tragic accident in which a guest fell over the cliffs. The Begerburg was then converted into a residential building.
After the descendants of the client had sold the house to the Dölzschen community in 1934, the Begerburg was planned to be demolished due to the poor state of construction. After residents protests, however, it was decided to renovate. Until 1945 the local NSDAP local group, after 1945 the FDJ used the building as the FDJ-Heim Grete Walther . Later, the Begerburg served as the domicile of a cardboard box factory, a library and a storage room. In 1979 it was sold to a private owner who had the Begerburg renovated until 1985 and set up as a guesthouse. Today the house is used for residential purposes.
