In 1992 Ruggiero started his own business with Sergio Artiaco at the La Vigna service in Englschalking (Munich). In 1994 you were the only Italian in town to be awarded a Michelin star . In 1998 Sergio Artiaco opened his own restaurant Hippocampus ( Seahorse ) in Munich near the Prinzregententheater . In 2003 Ruggiero also switched to the "hippocampus".

In 2006, Ruggiero was named “ Newcomer of the Year 2007” by Gault-Millau because

“He simply combines the traditional rural and the lightness of modern Italy into a contemporary kitchen without any foolishness. Just for the fact that he has no rocket, balsamic vinegar and lemongrass on the menu and that there are no frothy sauces, mini-vine tomatoes and drops of balsamic vinegar or green oil as supposedly decorative elements on his plates, he deserves to be named Italian of the Decade "
