- April 3 - KWKH broadcasts the Louisiana Hayride for the first time , only surpassed in popularity by the Grand Ole Opry in the 1950s .
- May 15 - Billboard Magazine launches a second country music hit parade: Best Selling Folk Retail Records . So it was possible to have two number one titles.
- July 24 - Roy Acuff announces his candidacy for governor of Tennessee . However, Acuff, who runs for the Republican Party, will lose the election.
- Eddy Arnold dominated the charts with five number one hits; the only artist besides Arnold to top the charts in 1948 is Jimmy Wakely with "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)".
- The Big D Jamboree goes on air for the first time in Dallas , Texas
- The Chippewa Valley Barn Dance premieres in Eau Claire , Wisconsin
- The Country Barn Dance Carnival is in San Gabriel , California , first launched back
