Creation Evidence Museum

The Creation Evidence Museum (German about: Proof-for-the-Creation Museum ), originally the Creation Evidences Museum (German about: Proof-for-the-Creation Museum ), is a museum that offers visitors one of creationism corresponding worldview shows. It is located in Glen Rose in Somervell County in central Texas , USA .

It was founded in 1984 by the young earth creationist Carl Baugh with the aim of presenting exhibits that present evidence for creation and against the theory of evolution. It also tries to prove that the earth is 6,000 years old and that humans and dinosaurs coexisted.

These statements contradict the scientific belief that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old and that the dinosaurs became extinct about 65 million years ago.

History and projects

The Creation Evidence Museum was founded by Carl Baugh, who wanted to investigate the claim that evidence had been found on the banks of the Paluxy River that humans and dinosaurs lived together. He claimed to have found 475 dinosaur footprints alongside 86 human footprints there. Baugh, who has no academic degree, is to this day director and speaker of the CEM.

In 2001, Baugh and the Creation Evidence Museum were featured on The Daily Show . In this context, Baugh was referring to The Flintstones regarding the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs .

Exhibits

All exhibits were heavily criticized and accused of being fakes or of creating a false impression.

Examples of exhibits:

  • The " London hammer " is a hammer of the shape used in America in the 18th or 19th century. It was found in 1934 in a chunk of limestone near London, Texas . The limestone is said to come from the Ordovician or the Cretaceous Period . It was examined by scientists who came to the conclusion that the limestone lump did not necessarily have to have been part of the rock in the area, but could have formed around the hammer in a relatively recent time: "The stone is real and can impress someone who is not familiar with geological processes [...] Dissolved minerals can accumulate around a foreign body that falls into a crack or is simply left on the ground, provided that the original rock (in this case determined as Ordovician) is chemically soluble. "
  • The "Burdick Track" (Eng. The Burdick Track): A human footprint in a rock from the Cretaceous period . Geologist Gregg Wilkerson wrote that the footprint had anatomical flaws and was therefore most likely scratched into the chalk cliff, like other prints in Glen Rose.
  • The "Fossilized Human Finger", (petrified human finger): A petrified human finger that is said to have been found next to a rock from the Cretaceous period. There are doubts here as it was not found in situ and therefore cannot necessarily be linked to the chalk cliff formation.
  • Two trilobites that give the impression of having been trodden on by a sandal.
  • The handprint in stone, an impression in a chalk cliff that gives the impression of being made by a human hand.
Baugh has presented no evidence that this was found in situ in a Cretaceous Pit. In addition, it does not allow experts to examine this print.
  • The Alvis Delk Cretaceous Footprint, a human footprint that is found within an Acrocanthosaurus footprint in Glen Rose chalk. The biologist Glen J. Kuban called this evidence dubious. PZ Myers called it a gross fake.

In 2008, a descendant of the family who found the Paluxy River footprints confessed that her grandfather forged many of the footprints, including the Alvis Delk Cretaceous Footprint.

Between 1982 and 1984, several scientists including JR Cole, LR Godfrey, RJ Hastings and D. Schafersman examined the footprints in Glen Rose. During the investigation, Baugh corrected the locations of the footprints and became entangled in contradictions. After several years of investigation, the scientists found that there was no evidence to prove the authenticity of Baugh's evidence.
