Crepis zacintha is a species of plant from the genus Pippau ( Crepis ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). A synonym is Zacintha verrucosa Gaertner .
features
Crepis zacintha is an annual stem therophyte that rarely reaches heights of 10, mostly 20 to 40 centimeters. The taproot is lignified. The leaves are covered with glandless and pale hair. The baskets sitting in the branches of the stem are sessile. The shell is 5 to 7 millimeters in size and bare or tomentose at the base. The bracts are hairy inside. The outer bracts are about half as long as the inner ones. The outer fruits are 2 to 2.5 millimeters in size, strongly compressed on the sides, triangular, pointed at the base and truncated or rounded at the top. The inner fruits are about 2.5 millimeters in size, obovate, yellowish, 10-ribbed and smooth.
The flowering period extends from April to May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 6.
Occurrence
Crepis zacintha occurs in the Mediterranean area. It occurs in Spain, France, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Crete, the Aegean Sea, Cyprus, Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Israel. The species grows in fields, fallow land, river beds and dry phrygana . In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 650 meters.
